Ask Your Boating Question?
Explain the Basics of a Marine Boat Battery?Question?Q: I ran into a bit of a bump and need some help. A very green boater I am, recently buying a Boggy Creak 16' center console boat. It has two west marine dual purpose batteries installed near the middle of the boat. I am looking to get a brief summary about marine batteries? That is all I can tell you. Have a good day. Truman Cuffee (Orlando Florida) Answer!A: Thanks ahead for a good question. Your West Marine battery is most likely a lead-acid type of battery and should provide great cranking power if you keep it charged up. However, when you are anchored and fishing at night, the lights, music, and any other phantom load stealing device is draining your battery system. With a dual system, you simply switch to either battery A or B once you turn the engine off. Then, switch to the other one just before cranking it up. A good day of boating generally means a good day with your Marine Batteries! Good call, as understanding your Boggy Creek dual purpose setup is very advisable. That should help you. It is great to bounce questions to us, as it helps our community knowledge.
